Missouri was honored on a national level for this dedication in April 2013 when Missouri was awarded the distinction of “Best Trails State” by American Trails, the world’s largest online trails resource.

The prestigious award, given to the top trail state every two years, recognizes innovative and successful trail sharing efforts, programs and systems. American Trails applauded Missouri trail managers for understanding the importance of pooling their resources together for the betterment of the trail system as a whole through initiatives like VisitMissouriTrails.com and the State Park Trail Inventory Database project.
